Hamed

The project refers to the Taliban takeover of Herat and Kabul in August 2021. Realising this project, I made acquaintance with the Afghan journalist Hamed Sarfarazi. Within an essay Hamed reports how he experienced Herat, his home town, before leaving, what impression he had of the jihadist militants and how he coped with the toughest time of his life.

I accompanied Hamed through his new hometown Cologne to experience and parse how he perceives his surrounding, in order to get an unterstanding of his imagery. By doing so, I tried to reconstruct the photos Hamed took during his last days in Herat, which he lost due to his getaway from Afghanistan. A trace of those can be found on the world wide web via Associated Press.
