Ein populärer Gebrauch der Fotografie

Photography represents a link between social and artistic practices. The family in particular uses photography to stage itself within the framework of its own rites and cultural rituals. The work identifies object-turned-photographs as everyday objects and deconstructs the modes of representation by alienating these social photographs from their context. By cancelling the previous privacy of the images, the exhibition form, as well as the aesthetics of the otherwise separate fields, enter into discourse and are made visible as their antithesis. As John Berger writes, photography here is simultaneously political, personal, dramatic, everyday and historical.
